BFA show posters : The Universe and I

So I have a solo BFA show on Monday and I have to finish everything as fast as possible.

But I made the posters! They have been printed and I'm in the process of putting them all up!
I'll post the pictures of the show some time next week!

You can find the facebook event here.

Blog Banners

I've been making banners for this blog.
It needed some extra sparkle.

Here are some of the variations I've been working with.

Scroll Images - In Progress

Hello everyone.

So senior year is coming to a close.
I have two BFA shows coming up.
And an 8 yard scroll to finish.

Freaking out?
Yep.

I'm a professional at multitasking at this point.
And my sleeping schedule is a work of art.

Anyways.
You came here to look a pretty pictures.
Sorry for the wait.

Here's how the scroll is coming along!

So first I have to copy everything onto mylar so I can photo-expose the image onto the photo litho plates. Here's the mylar I'm working on now:

Here are some finished/printed sections of the scroll:

And here's my studio space!

Another thing I'm trying to figure out is what to name this thing. I always find this part hard to do.
I've been going through books I own and writings relevant to the piece to find something that makes sense.
Some of my thoughts so far include:

Views of Infinity
Limited Views to the Universe
Fragmented Universe
Fragments of the Universe
Fragments of the Vast

It's a work in progress. I'll let you know how it goes.

Some Fun with Words

I've been playing around with text and calligraphy in my (small amount of) free time lately. It mostly stemmed from doodles on the side of my notes but I thought they were interesting enough to post here.

These first two deal with Sütterlin script. Sütterlin was the cursive script in Germany for some time and was taught in schools around the 1920-1940s. It's sort of crazy to look at since the letters, compared to the cursive taught in American schools, are sometimes illegible to me. I spent one page just writing in Sütterlin and then spent the other page trying to merge the two styles.

In terms of completed pieces I came up with these little fun things...

Scroll - Progress Images

My progress on the scroll is going much slower than I would like and I'm starting to worry about the time limitations. I'm going to work on it today for as long as I can and hopefully at least get some line work all the way through to the end. Until then, here are quick pictures of my progress!

Working - Print Exchange and Portfolios

Everything is in progress at the moment.

Well...almost everything....

I am participating in an undergraduate print exchange with the theme of 'Coming Home'.
I've been in studio for the past couple of weeks working on it and I finally sent all the prints off this past Thursday. They might be done but for the sake of surprise I'll wait until everyone gets their portfolios before I post some images of the final print.

So since I can't post any finished images I'll just put up some process photos for the fun of it.

I went all out on this exchange and even made ink tests before printing so here's how that turned out...

I'll have more in-progress photos of the actual prints and the final images up in a month of so (whenever I get my portfolio) and then I should be able to share how the completed exchange turn out!

Right now I'm sitting at my kitchen table coming up with a portfolio of work for a internship I'm applying to. I'll share some of the completed pieces next week so you'll see how that goes! Wish me luck!

A-Line Magazine Illustrations

A-Line Magazine is a Syracuse University publication that caters to Asian and Asian-America culture and news interests. Their most resent publication should be distributed throughout campus in the next week or so. I happen to be friends with their art director so he gave me a small illustration job to do for an article on food, particularly dumplings and rice cakes! I was only supposed to make two illustrations for them but I might have gotten a little edit-happy and ended up sending my friend about 15 variations. Anyways, since they were fun to do and only two of them will be shown I figured I'd post some of them here for funsies.

...the octopus one was a joke to my friend...mainly I just did it since I was told to turn it in very last minute and I wanted to troll him...possibly one of my favorites just because of the silliness :3
